Whatsapp is one of the most loved and downloaded applications in India but recently whatsapp is under fire for it's new privacy features which result in whatsapp several users switch over signal even after whatsapp said again and again that all the chats are end-to-end encrypted and cannot be accessed by it or facebook.
Signal is also a messaging app which also offers privacy oriented feature like end-to-end encryption, And collect minimal data of users.
Here's a quick view of both application privacy feature.
Whatsapp privacy features:-
▪︎ Fingerprint lock - whatsapp allow it's users to add finger print lock on app. So, only you can accesed to your private message. This doesn't block your call, only hide incoming message and also allow to turn on notifications to show content if you like.
▪︎Group Invitation system - only those persons add you in a group who has your mobile number and if you don't want to join in any group you can change the settings.
▪︎Profile Privacy - Whatsapp gives you control what details you share with others, and you can also hide your profile picture from everyone to from your contact. But whatsapp not added among your contacts option in profile privacy.
▪︎ Last Seen Privacy - Whatsapp let's you hide the last seen status as well.
▪︎Status Privacy - In status Privacy, there are three options who can see my status update
1. My contact
2. My contact except
3. Only share with.
Signal Privacy features:-
▪︎Screen Security - This feature ensures that you can block other users from taking screenshot. You can enable it by heading to setting section > privacy > Screen Security. This feature should be add by other messaging app for better privacy security.
▪︎Incognito Keyboard - This feature doesn’t allow your keyboard to save what you are typing. The company says once you enable the Incognito keyboard, your mobile “keyboard may stop learning from the input you type. For enabling it go to setting section > privacy > enable incognito keyboard .
▪︎Screen Lock - You can set your fingerprint lock just like whatsapp, it do not block call and one can reply the message from notification panel.
▪︎ Read Receipts - Signal has an option to disable or enable the read receipts it basically know if someone has seen or not the message and you can also disable the typing indicater. Both the feature are available in signal privacy section.
▪︎ Group Invitation System - If you creating a group in signal firstly Signal send a invite once your enter the name of people you want to create group and then the invitation should be accepted by people to join the group. On WhatsApp, this is only possible when you change settings to “My Contacts except.” This is for who can add you to WhatsApp groups.
